Trương Quang - sáng chế tủ lạnh Evaptainers không cần điện

Tại các nước đang phát triển, khoảng 470 triệu nông trại nhỏ mất trung bình 15% thu nhập vì thực phẩm bị hư thối. Vấn đề là tủ lạnh, điện  thì giá quá đắt , nhưng việc cung cấp điện cũng bất thường khi có khi không, làm tủ lạnh trở thành một khối sắt vô dụng. Vì thế, Quang Trương - một sinh viên gốc Việt học tại truờng MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Hoa Kỳ) đã chế tạo ra kiểu tủ lạnh không cần điện, và hy vọng phát minh này sẽ giúp đời sống của một tỷ người nông dân sống ở những vùng thiếu điện giữ thực phấm lâu hơn

Hơi nóng từ trong tủ Evatainers bị hút ra các tấm aluminium dẫn nhiệt cao, các tấm này nối với loại vải đặc biệt được giữ ẩm, và thế là bên trong tự nhiên mát lạnh. Máy lạnh này cần 6 lít nước để chạy, và giữ lạnh được 12 giờ đồng hồ.

Tủ lạnh này sẽ bán giá từ 10 đôla tới 20 đôla, có sức chứa dung lượng 60 lít rau hay chứa khoảng 150 quả cà chua lớn.

Hiện nay Trương Quang cùng Spencer Taylor mở một công ty làm tủ lạnh Evaptainer tại Boston Massachusetts.  Công ty Evaptainer đựợc nhiều giải thưởng và đuợc các hãng lớn khác tương trợ như Shell, Clean Energy , Dow, 3M ...

But an MIT student, Quang Truong, has come-up with something so unique and useful that it could benefit millions. As you know, electricity costs in developing countries are through the roof. Farmers can’t store their goods in refrigerators and according to some stats, 470 million small farms are losing %15 of their overall income due to food spoilage. This had to change.

Spencer Taylor, Truong’s partner in crime says many NGO’s came to help these farmers and offered them refrigerators only to find out later, they have been using them as shelves. Obviously, a poor farmer can’t afford the cost of keeping a refrigerator, so what can be done to help? This is where Evaptainers comes in, a refrigerator that doesn’t need electricity to run. You read it right, it does not require an electrical connection to work as it runs on water and sunlight. Hard to believe right?

The device looks similar to a cooler and draws heat outside of its interior and onto some highly conductive aluminum plates. These plates are connected with a special type of fabric, that is wet and should be kept wet to dissipate heat via evaporative cooling. User will need to have six liters of water to keep things cool for 12 hours. Water shouldn’t be an issue because if someone is growing vegetables, he already have access to water, says Taylor.

This is an invention that can change the lives of millions of people and it’s cheap too. You can get it for just $10-$20.
